Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why don't you just email me the scanned documents?
Two reasons…your inbox will have a limited amount of storage space. If it is filled up with scanned documents (which can be quite large) your email system may start to reject mail until you delete to make more space. That means some of your email may not arrive. Secondly email is not as secure as some people believe it is. Ask yourself this - why doesn't my bank/credit card company send me statements by email?
So why is MFExpress any better?
We use a secure server to store your mail. This is the same kind of server your bank and credit card company use when they give you online access.
How safe is my hardcopy mail?
Your mail is kept under lock and key and is only accessed for scanning and mail forwarding purposes. All our staff are subject to a strict confidentiality agreement.
How do you decide what is junk mail?
Most mail can easily be sorted into that which is solicited and that which is not. If there is any doubt we err on the side of caution and scan the item in. If you think we should not have scanned any particular item then just let us know and we will credit your account accordingly – no quibble.
What if I can’t access a computer for some time?
The size of your mailbox is such that it can hold an average persons mail for 3 months. All you need to do is a little housekeeping, deleting that mail that is not essential for you to keep. If you have extra requirements we are on the end of a telephone and happy to help.
How secure is my mailbox?
We have spent a considerable amount of time and effort making sure your mail is as secure as we can make it. There are extra steps you can take to increase security and these are described under Security Tips.
Is MFExpress only for expats overseas?
Not at all. The service is available to anyone who might find it useful. You may be a visitor to the UK and, having stayed here for a period on time, you are now returning home or moving on. Alternately you may be a UK resident who travels extensively either at home or abroad and would like to keep abreast of their mail while on the move.
Do I need broadband/ADSL to use the service?
Not necessarily though we would recommend a broadband connection to minimise download times.
What if I go over my monthly page allocation?
For extra pages the charge is 20p per page. If you think we have scanned pages that we should have discarded then we will not charge you for them.
How do I redirect my mail?
You can do this in person or over the telephone if you are overseas already.
Visit the Royal Mail website for details and an application form.
What will my address be?
